Spring Clothing Sale Set For April 12

Woman with Shopping BagsThe PTG is excited to announce our 1st Annual Spring Clothing Sale!  The sale will take place on Saturday April 12th from 9am-1pm.  Clothes will be available for sale at very low prices.

Please come in to score some good deals and support your PTG!

We are currently collecting  CLEAN and GENTLY worn clothing in children sizes 5-16.  These are a few examples of items we are looking for:

  •  pants
  • long sleeve shirts
  •  shorts
  • short sleeve shirts
  •  sneakers/shoes
  • pajamas
  •  sweatshirts
  • coats/snowpants

So please clean out those closets and even those bins stored in the attic, the PTG needs your help!  Donations accepted all week in the main office.

Adams Ale House Fundraiser This Week!

AdamsAleHouseThe Adams Ale House has generously offered to donate 10% of your check at their restaurant to anyone who brings in one of these coupons this Wednesday-Sunday!  Click here to print out your Adams Ale House flyer!  Bring your coupon into the Ale House this week.  Each flyer has 4 coupons for you to use or share.

Eat at the Adams Ale House Wednesday March 19-Sunday March 23 and 10% of your check will be donated to the playground fund.

Can we reach $45k before March?

Thank you to everyone who attended and/or donated to Pasta for Plunkett Playground on February 11th!  It was a great success and the final tally reached $3,056!  This is a nice boost in reaching our goal.  In addition to the dinner, the proceeds from this year’s Father-Daughter Dance are also being given to the playground fund.  Thank you!!

As of today, our total is $44,773 toward our minimum project budget of $80,000.

What’s happening with the project now?

  1. The playground committee is currently scheduling meetings with playground companies to get their proposals for our new playground.  Once the companies have heard our ideas, and shown us their vision for our new playground, we will be sharing these ideas and working with the staff and children at CT Plunkett to select a company
  2. Fundraising, fundraising, fundraising!  We still have a long way to go in order to build a new playground this spring.  What can you do to help?  Are you collecting your BoxTops and sending them in??  We hope to get more donations coming in from our local business community, and are working with a few local businesses who have approached us about helping with a fundraising event at their locations.  Details to come!!

Fuel Raffle Drawing @ Spaghetti Supper on Tuesday

fuelraffleHave you gotten all of your fuel raffle tickets in yet?  If not get them in by Monday because we will have our drawing at the spaghetti supper on Tuesday!

This year we will have 2 winners of $250 each toward their winter fuel bill.  Come down to the Pasta for the Plunkett Playground event on Tuesday from 4-8 pm to take a chance at our other raffle items as well.

Raffle item donations are still needed.  If you have a gift basket, item, or gift certificate that we can put into the raffle please bring them to the school or contact us.  Thank you!

Two Grants Awarded for Playground Project!

ToolBoxForEducation_LogoWe are pleased to announce that the CT Plunkett PTG has been awarded 2 grants for the playground fund.  We were notified on January 9, 2014 that we have received $10,000 from the William J. & Margery S. Barrett Fund for Adams, Cheshire & Savoy!

We are also pleased to announce that we received $5,000 from the Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant program last spring.  These 2 awards have given our playground fundraising efforts a great boost and we are so thankful to both organizations for supporting our kids!

Pasta for the Plunkett Playground

SpaghettiSupperWe are well on our way to acquiring an amazing new playground for the children and families of this community. Fundraisers have officially kicked off and we are now asking for help from the wonderful people of our town.

We will be holding a spaghetti supper at the Bounti Fare on February 11, 2014 from 4-8pm.

Ticket prices are as follows: $10 for adults and $7 for seniors/children 12 and under. Tickets will be available in the office at CT Plunkett starting Tuesday, January 21, as well as at the door.

During the dinner, we will be holding raffles for incredible gift baskets as well as a 50/50 raffle!! Please come out and support this cause and help us to achieve our goal of creating a safe and enjoyable playground for an amazing community!

 

Playground Donation Cans Made by CTP Families

Contact Your Child’s Teacher to Request a Template to Decorate!!

We need your help! As a kickoff to the official Plunkett Playground fundraising season we are asking our families and students to jump in and get involved!

Attached to this letter you will find 2 templates! We are asking families to decorate one or BOTH of the attached labels so that we can place them in our school and around our community. BE CREATIVE AND BOLD with your decorations so that our cans stand out above the rest!

Here is what you’ll need to do:

1) Grab your fluorescent markers, glitter, crayons, colored pencils etc.

2) Make your design on your donation can bright and fun!

3) Include your name and grade somewhere in your design.

4) Once your design is complete, cut the paper to fit your collection can.

5) Glue the paper directly onto the can.

6) Return your can to the Main Office at C.T. Plunkett Elementary School

The label with the picture of the Elementary School will be used on collection cans for Box Tops for Education! These collection cans will be placed at area businesses in the community so that anyone with Box Tops labels can donate them for our playground project. Dollars collected through the Box Tops cans will be kept in an account specifically for the maintenance of the new playground. At a recent PTG meeting the members present voted to allocate all Box Tops funds for this purpose now and for the foreseeable future. This will help ensure that there will always be a dedicated funding source for the upkeep of our new playground for many years to come.

The second label will go on collection cans for coins and cash. In addition to placing a can outside of each classroom, we will also place them in and around our community at area businesses. Money collected in the cans will be added to our overall fundraising campaign and donated directly to help build our new playground.

We will continue to raise money and collect Box Tops through the collection cans for the remainder of the year! On behalf of the students, faculty and staff at C.T. Plunkett Elementary School I would like to thank you for your generosity and cooperation in helping us launch this fundraising project!

Please be on the lookout for our complete calendar of fundraising activities in the coming weeks! We have already raised a substantial amount toward our new playground, but remember, every penny counts! Together, we can make this happen and we are so fortunate to have our families as partners in this effort!

December Update: Give-a-Gift Time!

giftWednesday, December 18th, marks the day for our annual GIVE-A-GIFT Workshop.  Give-A-Gift provides a seasonal theme conducive for ALL children and their beliefs.

Volunteers from the PTG set up a shopping room for the children to purchase gifts for two special ADULTS in their lives (usually 1 male and 1 female) at a cost of 25 cents each.  Our devoted volunteers then wrap the gifts and label them for the children.  The monies collected from the children’s purchases, and a matched amount from the PTG, will be donated to a local charity.

At this time we are asking for donations of gifts for our store.  Each student should bring in 2 (or more!) gifts.  The items MUST be new and need not be expensive.  The local dollar store is a wonderful place to purchase these gifts.

We will need 950 gifts in total!

Please send them in UNWRAPPED in a brown bag so that the children do not see the treasures.  The items listed below are just some ideas of things you could donate to our Giving Shop:

  • nuts

  • perfume

  • paper pads

  • flashlights

Instead of our usual PTG meeting this month, the time is designated to sort and count the gifts that have come in already.  We will meet at 6:30 pm tomorrow night, Dec. 10th, for a work meeting for Give-a-Gift.

New Playground Project Takes Shape!

The CT Plunkett PTG along with the school and the community have embarked upon an effort to replace our beloved Wacky World with a brand new playground for the next generation of children to enjoy.

The playground steering committee is actively preparing for a new playground by working with playground companies and designers throughout the next 3 months in order to have a plan that is ready to begin as soon as possible in the Spring.  We look forward to a community build that will give everyone the opportunity to create something great for this generation of children.  They are so excited!

Along with our project planning efforts we are also planning several fundraising events throughout the winter and spring to reach our goal of $80,000 before the end of the school year.  Several pages have been added to our PTG website to spell out all of the information about the project in detail.  Please take the time to visit them find out how you can be involved in this exciting project for our kids!  This will be a community effort and we look forward to hearing your ideas and working with you on an inspiring new playground space.

Yankee Fundraising Success!!

Thank you so much to all of our Plunkett families who participated in the Yankee Candle Fundraiser!  This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and it allows us to fund all of the field trips, performances, and events that the students enjoy each year.  The PTG gets 40% of the sales for this fundraiser and the kidsscreen capture have sold nearly $18,000 worth of product so far!  That means the PTG is on track to raise almost $7,200.  Thank you!
